The Mount Rushmores

9 Jan

There is an ever-growing list of bands trying to break out into stardom. Bands that work for years and years only to come up short in the end; never having gained the celebrity status they were dreaming of. There are those kind of bands and then there are the kinds of bands that dream of something bigger, like touching the hearts of everyone who comes across their music. The Mt. Rushmores write songs in hopes that it heals the listener. Who are The Mt. Rushmores you ask? A band from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, who dream of someday ending up in a bigger town to call home. Their aspirations run much deeper than just becoming famous. They hope to someday heal millions with their lyrics. Their recent EP, Who You Hope To Be, has just been released, and after much listening, you’ll understand when I say that every song on there deserves a special little place in your heart. Last month I had the chance to video chat with singer, Jeremiah Stricklin, about many things; including their EP, who exactly is Eddie, and the touching story of Rodney Jackson.

Here is “The Saint” off of their new EP. Enjoy.

Special thank you to Mike Vial for helping to compose all of the fantastic questions.

I caught these guys at their CD release party at the Bottling Company in Hattiesburg, MS. He couldn’t be more honest about the music making you want to dance. I could not keep my body still the entire time. The energy that fills the room when these guys pick up an instrument is overwhelming and it isn’t energy coming from the music (which is fantastically written), it’s energy radiating from their genuine love of the music that they are playing. And you can see that when they perform. They light up which makes you want to light up. The Mount Rushmores are worth a bit of a travel to see. If you hear that they are going to be nearby, do yourself a favour and make the trip. You’ll be glad you did.
